Democrat Kathy Castor is projected to retain her seat in congressional district 14 after redrawn maps reshaped the district.
Kathy Castor had won the seat in 11 terms.
The old District 14 included Democratic-leaning portions of Pinellas County and St. Petersburg. The new district is entirely within Hillsborough County and includes much of Tampa, along with communities in southern and eastern Hillsborough County.
Beltran's watch party was at American Social where he did not get the upset he said he was hoping for against Castor. I spoke with him and supporters who said they are disappointed.
"This wasn't the result we were looking for, but it certainly was not for lack of effort, lack of er door knocking, lack of fundraising or anything like that," Beltran said.
Watch report from Annette Gutierrez:
District 14 was redrawn, and the new boundaries changed the district’s political makeup and forced Castor to introduce herself to many Hillsborough County voters she did not previously represent.
Beltran says this isn't the end — he plans to run again in 2028.
"So like other government projects, this one is behind schedule and over budget, but it will be completed. The seat will be flipped, and you'll likely see me doing that on the ballot in 2028," Beltran said.
